Basic Dental Care Tips

Everyone’s afraid of the dentist! Unfortunately, you still have to go for check-ups every 6 months, but in the meantime, here’s how to give plaque the brush-off!

BRUSHING
Brush twice a day for at least 2-3 minutes. That’s about the length of 1 song, so tune into your iPod/MP3 while you brush. You should also brush your gums and tongue – it’ll destroy the bacteria that give you bad breath. And don’t forget, always look at the mirror when you are brushing!

TOOTHPASTES & BRUSHES
Look for toothpaste with lower fluoride content and follow the instructions. As for toothbrushes, we recommend you use one that’s soft-bristled. Replace your toothbrush approximately every 2-3 months or as soon as the bristles are worn or bent. A worn-out toothbrush does not clean your teeth properly, and may actually injure your gums. You should also replace your toothbrush after you’ve had a cold.

FLOSSING
Flossing cleans where brushing can’t – between your teeth and under the gumline. Floss at least once a day, using a back and forth motion, and only go as far as the gumline (forcing it under the gums may cause bleeding).
